The answer to the question

Friday night the Governor of Arizona was asked why wouldn’t it be better to define some illegal aliens as lower priority. Her answer wasn’t really an answer. She tried to not commit to anything that could later be used against her. What a bunch of hooey.
Her non answer made her look stupid. Her non answer made her look weak. Her non answer made her appear biased ... a racist.

Dummy.

The answer is actually very simple and in fact gets at what is one of the major problems with which we are more generally suffering from in our country today outside the whole immigration wedge issue.

The rule of law.

If an illegal alien comes into custody it is generally because they broke another law. In fact local law enforcement is explicitly prohibited from enforcing federal immigration law. So … an illegal alien comes into custody either through federal law enforcement activities (e.g., ICE raids) or because of first having broken a state or local law and their identity subsequently checked.

And … while traffic laws tend to be trivial; the impact of the presence of an illegal alien is not trivial. By an illegal alien’s mere presence in the country he is obtaining sustenance illegally from some combination of working, garnering public assistance, or criminal activity (theft, drugs, etc.). Each of these activities translates into costs that American citizens must bare and for which the enforcement of laws is indeed intended to protect them from baring.

The fact is, inarguably, that the poor do not pay for themselves. Sustenance given to poor illegal aliens is sustenance not given to legal Americans or a cost borne by American taxpayers.

Of the 46% of people in the US who pay less in taxes than for services they received in this country what is the percentage of illegal aliens? Working backwards from the fact that 98% of illegal aliens earn less than the threshold number and incorporating their overall percentage of the population 10% we get a working approximation of 21% of services are being given to them. You want to cut the deficit and improve the lives of America’s poor and taxpayers at the same time? Deport illegal aliens.

But … lets briefly touch on the more general issue here. The enforcement of the rule of law or the lack of it more specifically is causing problems throughout our country. It is at the heart of Main Street America’s economic woes. It is the de-leveler of the level playing field.

Put Bankster in jail and they will act as a deterrent to other Bankster-to-be.

Put a few mortgage brokers in jail and it’ll stop, too.

Put a few politicians in jail for corruption and it will at least quit being so blatant.

What we need is a law and order candidate for president.
