Editor note: A good hard practice -- except that we probably lost Chris Gragg for the season.

This morning's warms up got a chuckle out of me. If only #57 Robbie Campbell's mom and I had been sitting together. She and I would be friends for life. Robbie, OL, 6'4”, 314lb, a freshman from Wildwood, MO, is my current candidate for this week's cutest ass contest (I usually say arse, but ass is more appropriate here). My goodness, for a big boy he sure sticks his out. I LOL'ed when the coaches added a stutter step and twirl. Talking about line dancing. And he had such a serious look on his face. Whoa Nellie!!!! Too funny.
As a side note – number 72, Grant Cook, OG, 6'4”, 322, was next to Robbie, and he was Mister Stiff. There was no kneeling for him. And while he did touch his toes – which is somewhat surprising – Cook acted like he could spend some time in a whirlpool. BTW: He did jog off with the rest of them when it was over. I believe that's called playing in pain.
A couple of one liners from their group warm ups: (1) Biggest stride -- #75 – Matt Hall – He is one of my favorite freshmen and (2) Biggest gut – Kareem Crowell – redshirt sophomore OL out of Tallahassee, FL. They're not all slim and trim after all.
Today I mostly watched the quarterbacks and the other backs and receivers accordingly. I started trying to keep track of which one did the best at a particular drill or set of drills. So … without further ado … I introduce Angie's Quarterback Attribute rankings.
High Release: The point of these drills was to get the QB's to release the ball at the apex of their throwing motion – none of this side arm stuff. They did this from a couple of positions – kneeling, sitting, standing.
From Best to Worse -- Mallet, Wilson, Mitchell*, Youngblood and Petrino
Acting: Don't discount this one. Two reasons – (1) Petrino places a bunch of emphasis on it and (2) they're getting better at it, and, as a result, it just might fake out some of our SEC opponents and … certainly a TV camera guy or two this fall. The QB's are choreographed – a lot. And … everything is done quickly. They spend their practice running around in quick short bursts
Wilson, Mallet, Mitchell, Youngblood and Petrino
Touch: My definition – delivering the ball at the appropriate speed/zip/pop for the given distance between the QB and the Receiver. This one is really kind of hard to quantify and varies over the distance thrown. For example – Mallet has trouble on the close ones and Petrino has problems with the far ones – he just doesn't have the arm strength of the other boys. Net, net, net.
Wilson, Youngblood, Mitchell, Mallet and Petrino.
Accuracy: This one is fairly easy and it's pretty much what you'd think.
Mallet, Wilson, Youngblood, Petrino and Mitchell.
* -- and here is a good place to talk about the ASTERIC I put by Mitchell's name above. Mitchell has been getting extra attention from the coaches from the start. They are really working on him starting off as a young quarterback with good techniques. He appears to be very receptive and eager to learn. He's been coming early and staying late. Today … on Angie's rating day … I think he just had too many thoughts in his head about what he was supposed to be doing to be able to do any of them well … at all. I distinctly remember a few golf lessons that really screwed up my swing for a few days afterwards. Mitchell has some real talent. He will start as our QB someday. He is a freshman today though and today would not be a good day for that to happen.
Scrambler: The Quarterback most likely to be able to scramble for a gain – possibly a big gain. Mitchell is definitely first here. I bet he'd be able to compete with Grovey if we were to be running that kind of offense – which thankfully we aren't. As it is … expect him to pull a few rabbits out of his back pocket in a few years. He'll get out into the open on a busted play and gallop on somebody -- first down Arkansas. Just you wait and see.
Mallet is second followed in order by Youngblood, Wilson and Petrino.
Angie's current (reserve the right to change my mind) Overall QB ranking is what I presume to be Petrino's first three and that is Mallet, Wilson, and Youngblood. I imagine Petrino is fourth because I think redshirting Mitchell might be a great idea.
Mallet is a first string quarterback. No Doubt. But … should we need him … Tyler Wilson will be capable of stepping up. We will score some points this year. period.
